What is pottery?

Pottery is the process of forming vessels and other objects with clay and other ceramic materials

How long does it take to learn pottery?

Even veteran potters and MFA ceramic artists are constantly learning new information and techniques about clay. HOWEVER, we can teach you the basics in as few as two hours.

How long does it take to paint pottery?

The average painter takes between 1 1/2 to 2 hours to complete. It all depends on the piece you select, your design, how detailed you are, and how much time you have! You are welcome to paint for as long as you like.

How much does it cost to do pottery?

If you are intending to take up the hobby at home you will need a potter's wheel; basic models with electric power can cost anywhere from $300 to upwards of $1000. Clay is needed too and will cost a few dollars for a supply at a time. Books and DVD's on pottery can be bought from a few dollars to anywhere up to $50.

Can pottery be painted?

Acrylic Paint or Fingernail Polish. When a pottery piece doesn't need to be functional, you are no longer limited to using ceramic materials to paint it. Pottery artists can, and do, use any variety of other traditional paints to ornament pottery pieces that do not need to be functional.

How long does it take for clay to become leather hard?

Clay left in the shade can take an hour or more to become leather hard. Clay placed in a sealed bag or wet box will take 1-3 days to become leather hard. Clay placed in a bag and a wet box may take up to 5 days to become leather hard.
